What is faith
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
—Hebrews 11:1
Moffatt's translation of this verse reads, "Now faith means that we are confident of what we hope for, convinced of what we do not see."
"Faith is just acting on God's Word irrespective of what we feel, think or see." Faith is an act. That's what faith is.
Importance of faith
We cannot please God (Satisfy God/make God happy) without faith:But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
—Hebrews 11:6
How to receive faith
Rom 10:17So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
People often pray for faith, saying "What I need is faith." But actually what they need is knowledge of God's Word( i.e hearing
Gods Word).
When they hear Gods Word, faith automatically comes. You could pray for faith forever, but if you didn't get any hearing/knowledge of God's Word, you would never get faith. This is because "... faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."
Removing the comma, it could be read this way: faith comes by HEARING AND HEARING the WORD of GOD. Faith does not come by I have heard the Word of God before but later turning your minds from it. Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God continually.
Joshua 1:8
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein DAY AND NIGHT, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Greatest hindrance to faith
The only way the bible records to get faith is by hearing the Word of God. If you could get faith in any other way, the bible would have stated it. Therefore we can see that the greatest hindrance to faith is a lack of understanding of the Word of God. Our faith is held in bondage because we lack understanding of how to act on God's Word.Faith Ingredients – Confession and Perseverance
- Confessing Gods word and holding fast to your confession
That is a spiritual law which few of us realize.
Jesus said, "... whosoever shall say ... and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith" (Mark 11:23).
