“Live to the glory of God!”
But he [Stephen, the first martyr], being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw THE GLORY OF GOD, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God.
—Acts 7:55
God is a God of glory. The Bible speaks of the glory of God as a big-subject that appears about 275 times in the English translation, fifty (50) times alone in the book of Psalms.
Everything God ever made He made with a purpose of giving Him glory. We find that in Psalm 19 chapter 1 where the Bible says the heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament showeth His handiwork. When God made inanimate creation, when He made the heavens and the Earth, they were for His glory. And even when He made the animate creation, you know it says in Isaiah 43 that the beast of the field shall give Me honor or glory. Everything that God ever made was for His glory.
In Colossians 1:16 it says all things were made by Him and...what?...for Him...for Him. Everything that has been made has been made for the purpose of glorifying God. And in Isaiah chapter 48 and verse 11 God says, "My glory I will not give to another." Everything then is to be the glory of God
So the question is, how do you glorify God in the day-to-day stuff of life? How do you glorify in everything? Look to Jesus:
- “Should I give up after on this issues of faith? No, don't give up, those that give up will end up not seeing God's glory - Heb 3:6, Heb 10:38.
- “So should I get drunk?” No, no, no. Jesus didn’t get drunk. It doesn’t glorify God.
- Did Jesus lie to people? Jesus didn’t lie, I shouldn’t lie.
- Did Jesus steal? He didn’t steal. I shouldn’t steal.
- “Should I have sex with my boyfriend or girlfriend?” No, Jesus was a single guy who was a virgin, even up until the point of his death.
If I claim to be a Christian, Fine, but i should live my life as to the glory of God, following the example of Jesus, who glorified God in all times and ways.
This means you have to study your Bible a lot and really be loving and learning about Jesus and how to glorify him by being a good disciple who lives in this corrupt and evil world, a culture that isn’t about Jesus. Live in that culture in such a way as to honor and glorify God in all things.
